Fasting: A Means to an End

I wondered why I should and this book gave me Christ-exalting answers). But it has also been transformative in the way I approached God and any of His gifts in general. I am sure that his fingerprints are all over this blog. It has lead me to reexamine the things in my life that have potential to steal my affections from Him. The introduction alone is paradigm-shifting. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who desires to examine if his or her satisfaction is in Christ alone.
But as I read the book, I came across this grave warning about the dangers of fasting:

Well, for the past two or three weeks, I started to slowly relax some of my rules. I wanted to see if any fruit was born out of this experiment, so that I would have to lean less on “rules.” It became quickly apparant to me that I still haven’t changed much, if at all.
After I began using the internet again, I quickly welcomed the overwhelming abundance of information the internet offered. After exercising a measure of restraint these past few months, I thought I would be able to get a hold of the reigns, but alas, I began losing control and my little internet holiday became an unbridled joy ride.
Amidst the discouragement, it dawned on me. This has more to do with sins deeply rooted in the heart than it is about behavior modification. I am coming back to this journal with this in mind.
